“Sheep on the Narrows”
“Borrowed vistas from my garden thankfully include the neighbour’s sheep. Each spring a few new lambs, with their mothers in tow, are released onto the pasture next door.
This year we carved out clearer viewing spaces between our properties, removing decades of old farm fencing, brambles, and blackberry thickets, and replacing them with more secure fencing. I’m so glad we did. Now my view offers endless entertaining moments—and the chance to make new friends by way of apple treats from our prolific trees.
By autumn, a few of the older ewes remain after a summer of rich grazing, while the young lambs have moved on. My borrowed vista continues to offer an abundance of photo opportunities and inspiration for my paintings “Sheep on the Narrows” and “Salt Spring Sheep.”
