The Garden & Setting

The suite opens to covered private outdoor seating and sweet garden nook with some sea views and sunset skies.

This is an old garden, lovingly tended, layered over a century.

A magnificent Acacia tree shades the northwest side of the suite. A gnarled apple tree, offers fruit in season.

Deer roam about freely. In the Spring, doe's with spotted babies wander their old path often through the garden.

In the Fall, larger antlered bucks can be seen on hind legs nibbling at the lingering fruit on the old apple tree. They are shy, enjoy the fleeting photo moments.

Through the year the garden unfolds:

Winter anemones and crocus carpets.

Spring daffodils and euphorbia in luminous fullness.

Iris purple and yellow bloom April and May.

Roses, peachy pink and wild weaving over trellis through out the summer.

Japanese lanterns glowing in autumn

Vesuvius, is a sunset west side Salt Spring Island community

Vesuvius is an original beach side cottage community, established over a century ago when families from Vancouver Island sought the island’s warm western light.

It remains a close-knit, peaceful neighbourhood where residents treasure swimming at dusk, dramatic sunsets, and quiet evenings.

This is not a party setting.

No loud music. No pets please as we have three resident cats, Raven, Willow and Flower who will visit!

Simply a warm, respectful island environment.

Our Story;

We have lived on Salt Spring Island since 1991, raising our family and growing The Jill Louise Campbell Art Gallery.

Our Vesuvius home began as a 1920s original Vesuvius cottage and has grown gently over decades. Deer and Rose was long held as a private family retreat before opening in 2026 as a Bed & Breakfast.

We live upstairs with our three friendly cats,  Raven, Willow, and Flower who may wander by to visit to say hello. (Please ensure they remain outdoors when you leave for the day!). We endeavour to give you maximum privacy. Our days are very busy with our Ganges Gallery and Art business. Jill is often in her personal painting studio located in a separate building on our property, you are able to visit by appointment.

Deer and Rose is a place to slow down.

To watch the light change.

To swim in warm evening water.

To read, paint, rest, wander.

To breathe, relax, rejuvenate.
